Well, it’s been nearly a year since I put this site together. Today I have decided that it is time to finally retire it.

The business of making money with YouTube has changed drastically in the past year, and due to these changes I’ve since become more involved in other areas of making money online. I’m not certain what the future of this site will be (if any), but for now I’m going to let it collect dust (in fact I think it has already begun!).

Thank you to my loyal readers and everyone who has supported this blog. All posts will be left up for reference, even though many of the techniques have become outdated.

For those of you still advertising online dating via YouTube, I wish you the best of luck. Over the past two months I’ve had nearly all of my dating oriented channels nuked. Perhaps those of you more heavily promoting different types of products and services might be having better luck.

Feel free to leave comments below. As always, this post and all others on this site do not use the “nofollow” attribute in the comments.

And now, if you’ll excuse me, I need to spam my own blog with this Local Sex Partners link. You understand. Gotta pay the bills somehow!

Goodbye for now!

Have you received this error message after uploading a new video? It can be pretty frustrating after having created your video, waited for it to render, and then waited for it to upload to find out that the audio has been disabled because it has been identified as copywritten. We’ll save the ethical debate for another post. This post is about how exactly you go about circumventing this filter and successfully uploading videos with this sort of audio content.

Of course, just because this works today, does not necessarily mean it will work tomorrow. Also, you will need to be prepared to sacrficie a bit of audio quality (or at least the integrity of the original audio).

The Solution?

Reverb. That’s right. After all my tweaking of EQ trying to find the right way to skew a track enough to make it unidentifiable, I discovered that getting around the filter was as easy as adding a little bit of reverb. I’m no audio expert, but I’m guessing the reason that it works so well is because adding a healthy amount of reverb seriously alters the digital footprint of the audio file. You can see how different a wav looks after reverb is applied. Basically there is just a bunch of sound data where there wasn’t before, creating a uniqe file. For the user, it just sounds like the song is being played in a large room (depending on the amount of reverb).

My software of choice, Sony Vegas, has this effect built in. I’d imagine that most video editing software packages probably have some sort of default reverb effect, as it is a pretty common one.

I have so far tested this on three different videos, all of which originally had their audio track disabled. All three have been successfully uploaded and are still live with the reverb-tweaked audio files still in tact.

In some cases, the new sound of the audio will actually complement the video. Personally, I think it sounds pretty cool. I haven’t yet determined the exact amount of reverb that needs to be applied to safely evade the filter, but it’s safe to say that the more you apply, the less chance you’ll have of having any problems.

I know this has been a very frustrating problem for many of you, so hopefully this will make your lives a bit easier! I don’t expect this method to work forever, but until it becomes obsolete, enjoy!

Final Note

In some cases, having your audio match third party content will not cause it to be removed, but rather YouTube will display advertisments on the video that will benefit the rightful copyright holder. This may or may not be a problem for you (the advertisement makes it difficult to use annotations as we’ve talked about here before).

For those of you that haven’t already noticed, YouTube just released a brand new annotations editor. If you’re not familiar, annotations are the little text bubbles that pop up during videos. Check out using annotations to learn all about why they are so useful.

Instead of having to go into your account and to the page specifically for annotations editing, the new editor is built right into the videos main page. While your viewers will see your video as normal, you’ll see yours with two little arrows in the bottom left corner, and when you hover your mouse over the video content, you’ll see that it changes into a little targeting icon. Pretty nifty!

There is also an option to turn the new annotations editor off, if it bugs you.

Just thought this was worth mentioning, especially since it seems like I’ve only been posting negative stuff around here lately. This is good news!

Oh, I almost forgot. Another YouTube change! For those of you who like to troll comment boards and then later regret your ridiculous comments, you’ll be glad to know that YouTube has made it now possible to delete your own comments. Previously, only the owner of the video was allowed to delete any comments.

Personally, I think this was long overdue. Don’t get me wrong, I manipulated the system just like so many others, but from a business standpoint (YouTube’s standpoint), it had to be done.

Basically, whenever a viral video broke out in the past, eager marketers (as well as plain old attention seekers) would download the video and then reupload it from their own account. The video would then get a ton of traffic (some even rivaled the originals), resulting in collateral exposure to that person’s channel and whatever other videos they might have there. It was also a great way to gain subscribers from those who didn’t know any better.

However, now duplicate videos are hidden in the search results. For instance, if you search “Rolling Stones Satisfaction”, the first search result will be the original upload of the video, and underneath the thumbnail you will see a link that says “see duplicate videos”. Once you click that link, you’ll see there is an identical version (with a significantly lower view count) on another channel.

This new system has greatly cleaned up search results, but it seems a little slow to take effect. And of course, there are ways to circumvent this filter.

I don’t know for sure (and I probably wouldn’t disclose it here if I did) the exact algorithm YouTube uses to check for duplicate content. I have heard speculation that they indeed have a process that analyzes the entire video to create a digital “fingerprint” of it, and then cross check that against newly added videos. I’ve also heard speculation that the audio track is what is actually analyzed. I’ve yet to conduct any thorough tests to get conclusive results, but for now, if you alter BOTH the video as well as the audio content, your video should safely pass the duplicate content check.

How Much Altering is Needed?

You don’t necessarily need to make any big or obvious changes. Adding an extra second of darkness to the end of the video will probably do the job. You should also alter the title slightly from the original (but be sure to include the proper keywords so that your audience can find it).

A small edit like that can be done with Windows Movie Maker or iMovie. Personally, I prefer to use Sony Vegas, but I understand that many of you are probably in no hurry to buy professional grade video editing software just to tweak stolen YouTube videos!

Another way to easily alter the video content is to add a watermark, which may be a good idea depending on what the intended purpose of your re-uploaded video is. As far as the audio track is concerned, a simple way to slightly alter it enough to make it unique is to lower or raise it by a couple decibels.

I came across an article today over at Slighty Shady SEO (an incredible resource of information) that I thought was worth mentioning here. Here is an excerpt from the post concerning YouTube (and similar sites):

Social Video
Ah yes, the Youtube juggernaut. Video has taken off and isn’t going anywhere. These seem to spread faster than any other media that I’ve seen. The higher barrier for entry(video editing) keeps the landscape much more clear than the traditional text based linkbaiting. Ideal uses for this are branding, and ghetto mass marketing(explained more later). It’s proven to be extraordinary for social causes and those with a message, as well as those just messing around with a camera and a video. Overall, I’d call it the least monetized of the social web.

Ok, So What’s the Sort-Of Achilles Heel?

In it’s present state social video is severely impacted by having in nearly every case(youtube, myspacetv, dailymotion, for the love of god Veoh) having crappy search functions. This creates a tremendous opportunity for people to download/re-upload videos on a massive scale. A small amount of gaming and a better understanding of the video site’s algo, and you’re set.

Cross-Syndication is another element of social video. In the same way I described above where videos are reuploaded onto the other sites, and the traffic is claimed.

Why is it Just “Sort of”?

It’s hard to properly monetize any video that can be acquired automatically(aside from things like music videos) so you need a pretty special plan in place to benefit from the reposted videos. Such strategies DO exist, but will not be disclosed here.

—-Due to a recent change in YouTube’s view counting process (detailed here), I am now offering this guide 100% free.—-

Click HERE to load the PDF in your browser, or right-click “save target as” (or “save link as” in Firefox) to save it to your computer.

Over the past year I have been developing and testing different methods of monetizing YouTube. It’s one of the last online goldmines where an internet marketer with little to no budget can still make a decent income.

I have always been weary of eBooks, especially those in the “make money” niche, because 99% of the time they are over-inflated, over-hyped pieces of garbage that just rehash the same old ideas and inject them with pages upon pages of filler.

This PDF format eBook is short, sweet, and directly to the point. In less than 5,000 words I explain in detail how I go about using YouTube to promote various affiliate offers. The same methods can also be used just as effectively to promote your own products or web sites. This is the first time I’ve made my own personal methods publicly available.

This digital guide is intended for the beginner to novice level affiliate marketers, however, there are some of my own techniques found within that I believe even seasoned marketers will find useful and interesting.

Things to know before you get started:

Some basic knowledge of video editing software is required (Windows Movie Maker is fine)

High-speed Internet is strongly recommended

You should own or be prepared to register at least one domain (.com, .net, .info, etc)*

*NameCheap and GoDaddy are both popular domain registrars you might want to consider.
