I wasn’t planning on ever publicly announcing this, because I feared the massive amounts of spam comments I would surely receive. However…lately I’ve been receiving massive amounts of spam comments anyway, so I figured I might as well let the cat out of the bag!
A while back I removed the no-follow attribute from all comments posted on this site. That means if you leave your commentary with a linkback to your site, you will receive the benefit of a “do-followed” inbound link to your site. If you have a look around this site, you’ll find that while some pages have no rank, others are PR0, PR1, and PR2.
Regardless of how much spam bombards me, I will still continue to regularly moderate each and every single comment that comes in. I’ve actually got pretty good at it (despite a slip up the other day where I accidentally marked a legitimate comment as spam).
If you’d like to leave comments on this site, please feel free to do so! But please don’t waste your time if you’re not planning to add anything of value and just want to drop a link to your lame poker/acai berry/forex site that gets zero traffic anyway.
I don’t really care much about the content of the site you link to, just as long as you’re a real human being leaving an honest comment about the article in question.
By the way, if you’re having trouble finding other blogs that follow their comments, here’s a quick and easy tip: Just do a Google search for “U Comment I Follow” and “(keyword)”, to find sites that follow comments that have content related to whatever it is that you’re trying to promote.
Am I Crazy?
Some of my peers have brought my sanity into question when I told them I decided to remove the no-follow attribute from comments left on this site. Well, as far as I know, I am still sane. I think the whole no-follow concept is pretty lame, to be honest. If you already moderate your comments as it is, why not give back to the people that are taking the time to read your posts and leave their comments? I think it’s for the greater good of the whole blogging industry. If you have a blog of your own, I strongly suggest you consider taking part in the “U Comment, I Follow” revolution!

I really like the dofollow blog option and have added dofollow to all the blogs that I operate. It’s great for the readers who wish to comment.

Some of the comments you get are garbage with u comment, i follow but some comments are better than no comments when your just getting started.

So have you found that spam increased quite a bit after you added the dofollow tag? I’ve been trying to decide whether or not to add it in but the reviews seem to be mixed – some people got more, valid comments but some people just turned it off a month later due to all the junk :-/

@Spoonfed, to be honest I haven’t really noticed much of a difference. There was a lot of spam before, and there is a lot of spam now! Haha.

Of course comment moderation is the main thing to avoid spam not some plugins or noffolow options.
